Little Green Books

by Amanda on April 20, 2010

I’ve talked before about Little Green Books.  Reading to children is such a great thing to do.  They love it, we love it and it’s a great chance to bond with your child and teach them valuable lessons.

When I first discovered Little Green Books, I was really happy to have a way to join a love for reading with a love for the Earth.  My son is 5 and is like a little sponge.  He just takes in so much.  He really loves these books and while they still consume resources, knowing that they are made from recycled waste and printed with vegetable inks helps me rest a little easier.

For Earth Day this year I wanted to do my best to reach out to families and children.  As parents we hope that we do a good job and raise our children to be respectful adults.  I think that’s where a love for green living comes in for me.  I want my children to appreciate all that is around them and all that they are provided with.  I am happy to have teaching tools specific to their young ages, like these books.

I would like to share a little about these books and thank to Simon & Schuster for giving you the chance to share them with your little one as well.

The Little Green Books line is full of great titles featuring lovable characters and Earth friendly messages.

I Can Save The Ocean
Max the Little Green Monster is an adorable character that finds out that he can take steps at home to help save the ocean and all of the beautiful creatures that live there! Sweet lessons and lovable illustrations for little ones that want to be little green monsters too.

Little Monkey (& Little Panda)
I just adore these books. They are plush (made from recycled Polartec fleece) & cotton.  My 7 month old daughter just loves snuggling and chewing on them. The illustrations are feature large patterned images and she loves looking at the contrasting colors. The stories are short, sweet and feature playful (and energetic) Little Monkey and Little Panda.

This is Our World
An adorable book with built in surprise (puzzles) for your little one.

My son especially enjoyed the puzzle pieces in this book, though I admit he has lost track of them by now.  This book is an Earth Day journey picking up the Earth and everyone coming together to do their part for our planet.

In addition to the Little Green Books series, they have teamed up with Nickelodeon’s Big Green Help to bring a whole line of character themed books.  Even though my son is limited in his TV time, he still knows the characters and was thrilled to see these books.  He thought they were very cool, and if I remember anything about being a kid cool = good and good = they’ll listen!  (Each book below is linked to Amazon for more information.)

These books are great. They teach about beautifying city lots, planting trees, starting up recycling programs, the dangers of greenhouse gases and more. These books are inspired by some of children’s favorite Nickelodeon characters including the Wonder Pets, Spongebob, Dora, Diego and Blue’s Clues. These characters get children excited about and involved in learning about greening our Earth. My son was very excited and my daughter especially loved being able to point out the animals.

Thanks to Little Green Books, one of you can win a great Little Green Books starter set!  You’ll get all of these great titles that I have had the pleasure of reviewing for you.

I'm excited about trying to Live Green and do little craft projects and other green/healthy things around the house. This shows my children that being green can be easy and they follow in my footsteps. My 7 yo enjoys crafting with things found in the recycling bin and has created several projects at home and for school with them. These books would make a wonderful addition in my home. Thanks! I will be tweeting this from ecoscrapbook and ohiodh.

My 7.5 month old is still young but I'm trying to be a good example of trying to live green. We are building a chicken coop so we can raise organic chickens, he wears cloth diapers and we have been composting for about a year.

We are trying to teach our children about living green through various ways. We grow our own produce, compost, recycle, cloth diaper, and are very conservative throughout our lives. My daughter is eight and loves to read to our son who is one. Our daughter is already a book lover and our son is just starting to get where he has his favorites and will bring them over to me to read. :)

We love living green. It's not only beneficial to the environment but very economical for us too. Would love to pass on this to the kids and the future generation.

LIVE GREEN

My daughter is 19 months old, and she doesn't know too much about being green yet, but she knows the difference in recycle and throw away. Since we have two containers in the kitchen when I tell her to throw away she puts in the trash and when I tell her to recycle she puts it in the recycle container.

I can't wait until our little sproutlet arrives and we can teach him/her how to live green. I like to think that our organic/vegetarian diet will be the starting point for earth-friendly discussions :)

My son is a little too young to get what it means to live green but we hope that our lifestyle of reducing, recycling and making earth friendly choices is a lesson to him.

My LO is still very young but he's already an environmentally-friendly baby in his new fluff. We can't wait to teach him about caring for creation by making toys together, reusing in our house, and cook organic meals together! Can't wait to teach him to live green!

I am currently pregnant, so I haven't done any teaching yet! We are planning on cloth diapering and I use natural ingredients in our cleaning supplies. I've purchased the little monkey and panda book for friends, we'd love to have our own copy!

I don't really have to inspire my son to be green. He is that way already. He is always picking up trash outside and throwing it away or putting in his pocket to throw away when we get home. He wants to do an art project with everything we recycle. I think I need a craft book on recycled art projects!

There are tons of ways to involve kids in being eco-friendly – my 6 year old little sister loves to plant things and watch them grow, as I think most kids do. Also, just being a good example can go a long way!

We are always looking for new ways to live green! My kids and I love to eat fresh food from our vegetable garden, and also love to shop at our local farmers' market! We love to make toys out of items we have around the house, too! The kids love it and it's great for our environment, too!
