Vitamins, Who Knew?! Nutrition Possible Review

by Amanda on

This is me now... okay so it's not really, but a little!

So I’ve been fairly anti-vitamin supplements for some time.  I guess ‘anti’ isn’t quite the right term, but close.  I felt, and still feel, that we should be getting our nutrients from what we eat, however, I realize now more than ever, that it can be hard to get enough of what your body needs, even while eating a healthy diet.

While at BlissDom, I had the pleasure of talking to Cynthia Sass, at the Centrum Vitamin booth.  She is a nutritionist, health educator and author who was a joy to speak with.  I am always leery of medical advice, especially when pills are involved.  I expect to be given roundabout answers and word trickery to try to get me to come around to their way of thinking.  I got none of that from Cynthia.  She was very intelligent, what she had to say made sense, and she answered my questions with thoughtful and logical responses.

After speaking to Cynthia, I decided to sit down at the booth and take the NutritionPossible.com assessment.  There you can create a plan based on your diet.  I resisted at first because I figured it would be one of those odd, lengthy tests that you don’t really know the answers to, so you sort of guess randomly and end up with and answer that really has no use.  Much to my surprise, the Nutrition Possible assessment was very easy to follow and I felt good about the results in the end.

Centrumwas kind enough to send everyone off with the vitamins from their personalized plan.  I decided to give them a try when I got home from BlissDom, which was about a  month ago.  I have taken the vitamins regularly, with the exception of a day here or there where I get too busy and forget.  I have noticed a marked increase in my energy level (extra vitamin B, which is amazing for me.  My nails also look amazing and are stronger, which rocks and I have a general clarity to my thought processes.

You know those days where you feel a smidge foggy and you are always forgetting something?  Yea, that’s me… except now not quite so much.  With a blog, magazine (Kaia), magazine job (Green Child), local outreach, three kids, a house, husband, and dog… Okay.  I’m exhausted just typing those out!  I think you can see what a blessing  having a more energy and clarity is for me!

Did I mention that Chris Mann sang to us at lunch?!

I think I eat a well rounded diet for the most part, but my body’s response to the vitamins has left me with the realization that I’m simply not getting all that I need from the foods I eat.  I will be focusing more on creating a diet that reduces the need to supplement, but I do like the idea of the personalized plan to help fill the gaps. I will certainly reassess regularly to be sure that I am not supplementing with vitamins that I don’t need.

If you are interested in trying this out, head over to the Nutrition Possible website and get started, and of course speak to your care provider if you have any concerns.  Also, for a limited time, Centrum is giving a $7 coupon to get you started with your plan when you sign up, so don’t miss out on that if this is something you are interested in!

The only time I took vitamins regularly without forgetting was during pregnancy, when I took a high-quality, food-derived vitamin…until now. I bought gummi-vitamins and now I never forget them! I agree with you about relying on food more than vitamins for nutrition, but most Americans are lacking in B vitamins, which is where that energy boost comes from! I’m checking out the Nutrition Possible site now :)
