Getting Fit… and Off Track

affiliate disclosuremedical disclosure

I am on track as far as the getting fit part goes, but I am two days late on my new weekly post about it.  I have a good excuse, I swear!

As you may know, I am the founder and editor of Kaia Magazine.  I do the design work and it pretty much puts me into a design induced coma for about two weeks before publishing.  There is so much to do and get together in the last weeks that I have tunnel vision, and this issue had the added benefit of being around my five year anniversary (we’ll get to that in a minute!).  Needless to say, I ended up with some late nights to get the job done.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, please do!  Kaia Magazine is a labor of love.  It’s for adults and about adult topics (with the occasional parenting topic thrown in).  The men and women who write for Kaia offer wonderful, rounded and progressive voices to the the many topics that encompass green and healthy living.  Best of all, Kaia Magazine is completely free to read.  So when you’re done here, head over and catch the new issue, and if you haven’t seen the past issues you should check them out too!

Okay, so back to my week and weekend.  My fifth anniversary was on Saturday and it was awesome!  Trevor took me biking (get fit!).  We went on about a 15 mile bike ride, which was breathtakingly awesome and then we went to a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant, called Salaam, that had good reviews on Urban Spoon.  SO.FREAKING.GOOD.  and I was able to choose a healthy dish that didn’t break my calorie bank! We spent family time together Sunday and then I tried to put myself into an insane asylum by staying up until past 3 a.m. on Monday morning to finish Kaia… then I tried to tackle our playroom.  All in all, I did great keeping on track with my fitness goals.  I worked out when I could (I like to walk and bike!) and I tried to make good food choices, which is the trickiest part, but I think I did a good job.

If you’d like to catch some of my daily fitness (and life) madness, you can view my Instagram feed on my tumblr site The Other Side of Me.  I plan to use it a bit more when working out to log my insanity.

It’s June 6, I am about 3.5 weeks into my fitness journey and I am down 7 pounds, but more importantly I have energy that I haven’t had in years and I am feeling better every day.

If you’d like to join me, please do!  You can follow my journey here and on (my profile link).  You can ready a bit more about the start of this journey here.  I would love any support and I would be happy to provide support to you as well.  There are enough hurdles in the way, support from people that care should not be one of them!

Before I go, I’d love to know you have any favorite smoothie recipes and/or experience with juicing.  Do you have a favorite mixer/blender/juicer?  I’m interested in learning more about the health benefits of these and would love any insight.

Oh and one more thing.  Do you have any bicycle recommendations?  We are currently borrowing bikes from my in-laws, which I appreciate, but we need to get our own.  We took a trip to the store to try some out, but left empty handed.
