Join in Screen-Free Week!

Screen-Free Week is here and if you haven’t joined in yet, you still can!  Screen-Free Week is an annual celebration where participants turn of their screens and enjoy all else that life has to offer – reading, exploring, enjoying nature, spending time with loved ones or just daydreaming.  It might seem nuts to turn off the screens for a week but it’s about more than that.  It’s about creating balance and improving your quality of life all year long.

I have to admit, that I won’t be able to just turn off for a whole week.  I can’t imagine how far behind I would become, and very quickly, but what I can do is limit my screen time and make more time to spend time outdoors or playing games with my kids (*hint* of something to come this week!).  I encourage you to join in this week. If you can turn off completely, that rocks!  If not, don’t count yourself out – just do what you can.  It’s all about making your life better, so why not?!

I am excited to take the kids to the park and go biking with my husband.  I make it to the park with the kids as often as I can, but always wish it was more and I have been dying to go biking for years.  I look forward to making the most of this week, and those to come!

What do you look forward to doing the most, or what activities do you miss doing that you’d like to try this week?

  • We rarely watch TV. My girls get a lot of TV exposure at their grandparents during the week while they are being cared for while we work, so we choose to spend the little time we have each night, cooking, eating bathing, coloring and playing games. One game I’ve been thinking about a lot lately but can’t quite remember how to play is Farmer in the Dell. I always loved Duck Duck Goose. We plan to start playing Twister with our oldest girl, who just turned 3. We also need to plant some flower seeds, so perhaps this is the week for that. 🙂

  • I don’t think we will make it completely screen free, but I am going to keep the TV and computer turned off while I am home with the kiddos during the day. Today we did pretty well. C played a computer game while I showered, but thats it. We have plans to take some walks and enjoy the warm, but wet weather we are supposed to have this week!

  • What a great idea! I love doing crafty things with my kids. I have to keep their little hands busy if we unplug for the day. We adopted a no tv rule last summer break for our family and we only had “movie time” for my older children while it was naptime for my youngest (so she could sleeep). It went incredibly well and we had a lot more fun doing things that way!

  • We don’t watch a lot of TV in our house, especially when the kids are awake. We don’t have cable so that makes it pretty easy:) My oldest usually watches a kids movie for 20 minutes or so in the morning so I can shower and get ready while the littlest naps but that is about it. I love the idea of a screen free week though!
