Receipt? No thanks!

affiliate disclosuremedical disclosure

I can’t count the number of times I’ve gone into a store, purchased something small.  The cashier gets my change and asks if I want my receipt.  I say “No thanks”, and in the trash it goes.

It wasn’t until an email I received that I contemplated how wasteful this was.  It’s not just me, it’s most people that don’t even take their receipts, and if they take them they will likely end up in the trash or wadded up at the bottom of a purse.

There is a poll up on this site HERE asking your thoughts on paper receipts, along with some great information.  I encourage you to head over, give it a read and share your thoughts.

I think it’s a great subject.  I can’t believe that I’ve never considered the impact.  Imagine all that could be saved form eliminating something that most people don’t use anyways!

  • Hmm, interesting. I take all receipts but I need them for tax purposes. I think they should only be printed off if someone asks for a receipt because they need it. And most stores require proof of purchase (aka receipt) if you need to return/exchange. The store shouldn't print if the customer says "No thanks!"

  • Sometimes the receipt comes in handy for a return, but mostly they just aren't necessary. Thanks for the great post. Peace. 🙂

  • Wow … I hadn't considered this! A change in this policy could really make a huge difference. Thank you for the informative post. (We like your blog and have added it to Ecover's blogroll!)

  • The link just takes me to the home page but I prefer places that use Square so I automatically receive an emailed receipt. I’m not interested in NOT receiving a receipt so if all they have is paper, I’ll take it.
