I’d like to talk a little about wearing your baby. I say a little, because there is so much to it, but that’s for another post.
When I had my son, my first child, my aunt sent me a ring sling. I was confused by it and had NO idea how to use it. I tried a few times but never could figure it out. She lived far away and I had no one nearby to show me how to properly use the sling.
A few years later I found myself in a hospital room with our next child, a daughter born at just 33 weeks and 3 days. I was scared and she was so tiny. My nurse gave me a book about Kangaroo Care. I sat up reading this book cover to cover. I was drawn in by the stories and the amazing bodily connection that we have with our children even after birth. Even now, thinking back about those emotions brings tears to my eyes. It’s an amazing book and I suggest reading it, even if you aren’t a parent. (I’ll talk more about this in another post as well!)
After reading this book, I was so determined to have my daughter on me as much as humanly possible. I borrowed my mother-in-law’s laptop while I was in the hospital and did some research. I read about the Moby Wrap. I had to have one. I spent what seemed like an arm and a leg on the product and priority shipping. It was the best purchase I made for our baby girl.
I can’t begin to tell you what I feel that this did for our daughter. The way she thrived and how peaceful she is. She is the most amazing child. She is gentle and loving and secure. I love the way that she is with her brother. So loving, always sharing. She can be nuts too, don’t get me wrong, but there is something more there, and I am confident that wearing her played a roll in that.
When I would wear her in the stores or just out and about, she would sleep. So peaceful. When she wasn’t sleeping she loved to suck on the Moby. I almost forgot about that! I remember thinking (every time I wore her), I wish I had known about this with our son.
I remember him in his carrier crying in stores, me trying to calm him. I remember picking him up and trying to hold him and push my cart while trying to get some food in our house. I wish I had known! Not only would it have made things easier for me, my little boy could have been so much more secure back then. He’s an amazing child, so smart and so generous. I just wish I could have given him that nurturing – that gift.
I also want to mention that even though my daughter was premature, I truly believe that everyone should wear their child if it’s possible. There is a bond there that is just amazing and I think every parent should be able to experience that and every child should have the benefit of that connection as well. It’s amazing.
Can you tell this is something I really believe in?
Let me share a story from another woman 🙂 This is from Nicole at Bebeology (formerly). She is amazing btw. I have mentioned both her and her store on this blog before. Anyhow, here is her testimony to the Moby:
“I love the Moby Wrap and it is definitely one of the few items that I cannot live without. My son was born 4 weeks early and we started using the Moby Wrap at the hospital. Since he was pre-term, it was highly recommend that we practice a lot of skin-to-skin contact immediately following his birth. I was very surprised how many of the nurses were not familiar with baby-wearing and I was extremely happy that I had taken the time to learn the basic wrap a few days before our son arrived. I believe my son enjoyed being “hugged” close to me in the fabric, and I know that I enjoyed the closeness of wearing my baby. Since his birth, the Moby Wrap is the only way that I can get anything done at home. He feels very secure and I am hands-free most of my day. I run a small home-based business and incorporating play, security, and attachment into my daily work tasks is essential! Most days the only way I get him to nap is when he is wrapped and worn. He also gets swaddled in the same fabric with a Moby Swaddle blanket every night. I believe the familiar comfort of the fabric adds extra comfort to our nighttime routine.”
Do you babywear? Have you found it to be a useful tool for parenting?
I love just holding my baby she is so snugglie with me I just adore our snuggle time together, we also love to play peekaboo and catch me (she chases me around the living room)(shes going to be 1 november 11th). I have been reading up mon living green, and trying to do my part here and there. I also know Nicole (we went to school together) and I love her store it has such great things, she truely is a sweetheart! I've been trying to get freinds of mine to go to her website as well to check out all the eco freindly things that she has! I never really got a chance to baby wear but I wish I did. and if we have another I am certainly going to do it!

I'm expecting in April and already plan on purchasing a Moby. I look forward to hiking with our little sprout as soon as possible and heard that the Moby wrap is great for this activity! My hubby and I love to live green and explore the outdoors and a child will only add to that experience!

Right now I love snuggle time because it's getting harder to get down and play on the floor being pregnant. But, I also love building time with DS because he really has taken to building some neat things with his blocks. And there are always hugs and kisses thrown in there because he's extra happy.

I look forward to having a nurturing and close relationship to my children. I want to share my love and raise children that are empathetic, compassionate, thoughtful, and conscious of the world around them…. My husband and I are learning to live green, and we want our children to do the same. We want it to be a way of life for them, instead of having to learn it and overcome bad habits like we have had to!
I'd love to have a Moby wrap, and hubby has already agreed that he would wear our baby too. I am so glad he is as passionate about babywearing as I am! We've both decided to do skin to skin contact with our little one when they get here.

I felt silly saying the thing I look forward to the most is snuggling my baby to be but it looks like I might not be alone in that. I also can't wait to show her (or him) everything I can and share all the amazing things there are to see in the world. Thanks for this giveaway! Live Green! lytedark at gmail dot com

Our first baby is due in Feb and I am so excited to be a mom. This is a very long awaited baby as we tried to conceive for nearly 6 years and this baby is coming to us through adoption. I am most looking forward to waking up to the sounds of a baby each morning instead of waking up to take my temp or take another ovulation test. Since I haven't had the joy of carrying this baby for 9 months I really love the idea of baby wearing. I've been looking at all the different styles of carriers and I'm in love with the Moby. I've been trying to find a used one because the price of a new one is just not something we can afford right now. Live Green!!

LIVE GREEN! 🙂
I have 4 kids and have tried every other baby sling, bjorn, sungglie and haven't liked them because they hurt my back. I am having my 5th baby and would love something that feels good on my back
I first experienced babywearing with my nephew, his mom was an avid baby wearer and he was the most calm baby, very used to being moved while sleeping, and he was born at 10 pounds 6 ounces, so he got very heavy on our arms very quickly!
My baby is due in June… I've been researching, even before the positive pregnancy test, about baby wearing, cloth diapering, and other ways to live green. I live in very northern NH (it's also very very cold in winter and babywearing will help keep my baby warm!) and go hiking often with my 3 dogs, and I can't wait to add baby into this mix! The only way to do so safely will be with a wrap, which is why I'm entering the giveaway contest.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!!
I do not have my baby yet, but I am so excited about this pregnancy. For years I have told my friends about cloth diapers and they have all called me crazy. I can't wait show them it is possible to have a clean happy baby with cloth diapers. There is no reason not to live green. It is our future and our grandchildren's!
It took us 15 months to conceive this miracle. We had just undergone all our diagnostic testing with a RE and they couldn't find anything wrong with us. We were awaiting an appointment with the RE to discuss our "plan of action" and what the next steps would be. I got a very unexpected BFP two weeks before the appointment! It felt wonderful to call and cancle.
I cannot wait to meet this little miracle we created and my body is nuturing right now. It is such a gift. I am most looking forward to seeing my little one grow and experience all that this wonderful world has to offer. Seeing the world through the eyes of an innocent child must be the best feeling on earth and I can't wait to share that journey.

I love watching my kids learn about how the world works. They are both very big plotters and thinkers and like to see how things go together. I also love to teach them how we impact the earth. The other day a friend took my son Ryan to the park and he saw some trash in the road and he stopped to pick it up and throw it away. My friend was really touched that Ryan cared enough to really Live Green. He sets a pretty good example. 🙂

I really enjoyed the tutorial video on the Moby wrap. I am not regnant yet but we are actively trying. I look forward to that bond that you speak of that you had with your daughter. I want that more than anything! We will continue living green when we do get pregnant, as we plan on using cloth diapers. I think that this is a great way to do our part.
I look forward to purchasing a moby wrap, or some other wrap if we cannot afford it. I think it will be a wonderful xperience.

I just had my first baby about 8 weeks ago (I can't believe how fast the time has gone!) My favorite activity with him so far is simply snuggle time. I love feeling his warm little body next to mine, and wish it could last forever (well, at least until the next feeding…) Since he has entered the world I have done nothing but research baby products, organic living, and various ways that we can live green. I've always been interested in living a more "green" lifestyle, but it's amazing how much more important it seems now that we have a child to think about.

I love to take walks with my children. I love to see them laugh and that first smile, well, there's nothing quite like it.: ) I started wearing my son at one week old, and while not with the Moby, I can see why this is such a popular wrap. If I win this, I will be giving the Moby wrap to my SIL, who is due in March. She loves to live green, and I know she would be so excited to have a Moby wrap.

This is going to be our first baby. My husband and I can't wait to show our baby as much as the world as we can. We are just learning to live green and eat organic and can't wait to share all that we've learned with our baby. Hopefully it will be their way of life. We want to teach tolerance, conservation, passion for change, compassion and show them love. My husband and I would love a Moby Wrap to always have our baby close to us. I'm glad there are so many other families out there that feel this way.

One of my favorite activities right now with DS is playing "chase". Sometimes I chase him, sometimes he chases me, and it always makes him laugh to have mommy crawling around with him having fun. His laughter and smiles are simply infectious!
Before DS was born, I looked into lots of baby carriers. The Moby Wrap was one of my favorites, but we weren't able to afford a Moby and a ring sling. I would love to have one and I know DS would enjoy being worn by me or DH, at home or while walking in the woods, etc.
We make an effort to live green and give DS a secure nurturing environment. While we don't wear him nearly as much as we used to, I think it has been so beneficial to our boy – and to us!

I have 2 kids ages 3 and 5. My 3 year old still likes to be picked up a lot especially right now since we all have colds and he doesn't feel very good. It hurts my back to hold him without any other support, so this wrap would definitely come in handy! We are trying to conceive #3 and so between now and then it would sure get a lot of use 😉 My favorite thing to do with my kids is to take them down to point defiance beach and walk along the water. There are so many great nature things to see and experience there it's an easy way to talk about creation and God, and they love to look for sea otters and whales there too!

We love bathtime with our LO. The first few weeks, when we bathed him in his infant tub in the sink were fine, but one incredibly hectic, colicky day someone suggested getting in the big tub with him. We never pulled out the infant tub again. He's so happy in the water and is undistracted. We can easily spend 30-45 minutes in the tub, chatting, smiling and giggling. And after a few weeks of seeing me so happy with our LO in the bath, my hubby decided to give it a try – now he loves his baths with his son as much as I do!
Thankfully Oliver isn't colicky anymore, but our bathtime ritual was a lifesaver when he was. And it continues to be a great end to the day for the whole family. (Now, if only we had a tub that would fit all 3 of us!)
Like many other girls I'm looking forward to lots of snuggle time. I'm also looking forward to story time at the library and taking him running with me. Live green!

I'll definitely need a Moby Wrap once I have my baby. I can't imagine a better way to be hands free! I see myself as preferring to wear my baby rather than use a playpen/swing/bouncer all the time like some of my friends. I really look forward to having my baby close to me all the time. Plus, not buying buying those big pieces of plastic that make digital noises gets me closer to the goal: to live green.

i have a moby type carrier that i used occasionally with my first baby. i did not feel confident baby wearing when he was so little, but as he got older it was the only way he would sleep if we were out and about. i am now expecting baby #2 and cannot wait to wear my little one. i am not entering the contest (since we already have a few carriers), but could not pass up the opportunity to share my love of baby wearing as well. love your blog, and thanks for sharing.
We love to live green (yeay cloth diapers!) and I think babywearing is a great idea, but with our three children I was never able to really get the hang of it. I have since found out that part of my problem may have been the crappy sling/carrier we had. I have heard great things about the Moby and so maybe a Moby is just what we need to wear baby #4 due in May. My favorite thing to do with my babies truly was nursing – I love to have them close. I also love taking them to petting zoos – they all went crazy for the animals. So enter me in the contest, i'd love to try a Moby! thewickorens at hotmail dot com

I love watching my baby girl try to take her first steps. And I am in awe of each time my two children interact. It just brings a smile to my face.
I wanted to purchase a MOBY for her, but we just couldn't afford it! I would love to win one!
We LIVE GREEN by using only cloth diapers and cloth wipes. My son is a big helper when taking the time to recycle and reuse items.

When my son was a baby I loved being able to hold him against me and just rock in our chair, now that I am having our second son in 3 weeks I am looking forward to doing the same with him. I cant wait to get my own Moby so I can have my new son against me while I play with my 1 year old, or just sit and crochet with him sleeping against me. A Moby will also help us live green more, since we will be able to have the new baby held close to our body while our older son plays outside!

I am a full-time working mama, so I cherish any time I get to spend with my son. We love playing outside and on Saturday, he helped me throw leaves in the compost pile. One way we are trying to live green.
My favorite daily activity with my 15 month old is the pre-bedtime routine, especially bath night! As a swim instructor and former competitive swim coach, I love that my son loves the water. Unfortunatly, swim lessons start when he is going to bed… so the next best thing are lessons in the tub. Then we brush teeth, lotion, cloth diaper and pjs, read and cuddle.

I have been working with children for years. And have always known I wanted to be a mama. And now I''m finally getting there! I just love holding little babies, introducing them to new sights, sounds, flavors, textures, even smells! And feeding them, showing them a reflection of themselves in a mirror, sitting behind them when they start learning to sit up, holding their hands as they take their first tentative steps, … Oh, it's all so wonderful.
What I never liked so much was taking out the big trash full of diapers. We know that they are not going to return to nature. And I hate that. But, of course, taking care of someone else's baby, you do things the parent's way. It will be so nice to BE the parent, and make those decisions, to use cloth diapers like I wore as a baby, to not think a toy has to come out of a plastic package to be good, to enjoy an outfit, toy, or book, knowing you're sharing a treasure that someone else loved first. I know I won't be the greenest mom around, but I'm definitely striving to GO GREENER than I am, and than I see many around us.
I have seen time and again that little ones don't care about the cost of something, they care about the fun of it, or the time they get with the ones they love, namely, US as parents! What better way than by holding your baby securely, as close as hug. And having the flexibility to be able to still move around and get the laundry going, and all the other chores of being a mama and having a family! How comforting to know as a baby that mama is right there for you, no matter what.
I love going on long walks pushing my little boy in his pram. He is at an age where he points to everything for me to tell him what it is. They are so inquisitve when they are young. We have beautiful nature walks right near our house so it is beautiful to take walks, surrounded by nature. To Live Green is the best feeling 🙂

I love every second. It is very hard to pick just one :o)
My favorite thing that DS and I do together is explore outdoors. I make a point to have one outside activity that I share with him everyday. We walk to let the chickens out or check on the garden. Sometimes we swing or just sit on a bench and watch the birds. I hope to pass on the importance of living green by giving him a great understanding of the outdoors and all living things.

I don't have a baby yet, but I'm really looking forward to baby wearing and cloth diapering!
I am 29wks pregnant and looking for ways now to live green before our first child gets here. I'm always on the net (shh, don't tell my boss) researching cloth diapers, cloth wipes, eco friendly ways that we can incorporate and get into the swing of things now before our LO gets here.. I want to be ready.. I have read some information on the moby and hope that maybe I could win your contest, or that someone will be so generous to get us one for our upcoming baby showers?? The benefits of 'wearing' your baby seem that they could last a lifetime, so hey, why not start out as soon as they are born with the best intent, it sure can only help in the journey we are about to begin as parents!

I love wearing my baby!!! I think it's a great gift for your baby and for the mama (and daddy too). I've never used a Moby, but would really like to try.
Oh, and yes, I believe in living green. "LIVE GREEN" I think green living is far more than recycling, but we do that too…. wearing your baby is another way of nuturing our earth by nuturing a relationship with your child.
Not every mom has to do all of the same things to live a healthy lifestyle and have a positive impact on the earth. I applaude the mamas out there who work hard on every level to foster strong and healthy little people!!
We love to hike with our little boy, esp since we live in such a wonderful place. Living here brings home the "live green" lifesyle. Please enter me. amyyellowstone@yahoo.com
I love it all! holding, rocking, nursing, even changing those cloth diapers as we try to live green. having that sweet little one love you most of all…priceless 🙂

now that my daughter is a toddler, i love taking her to the park and watching her run around. it's amazing to see all that she can do now when only a year ago she was just mastering sitting up!
i regret not wearing her more… she just didn't seem to enjoy it when she was a newborn so i gave up but with twins on the way i am determined to wear them! and i want a moby wrap!! i'm so excited to try wearing them together!!
I cannot wait to meet my little one, and hold her and cuddle her.

I love playing with blocks with my daughter. As a baby, she generally would just knock them down, but now she can stack them pretty high. I think it is amazing!

I love being able to walk around my house and do some cleaning while cuddling with my daughter, but without 2 hands I don't get anything done. The Moby wrap has been GREAT in helping me free my hands and make my daughter completely comfortable and haqve bonding time. Other carriers that I have tried just make my back hurt. I'm borrowing mine from a neighbor, so this would be a GREAT gift!!
Wearing my little one is one of my favorite activities. That and just watching him grow and watching his little personality begin to shine. Live Green! deberniere at yahoo dot com
My favorite activity with my daughter is reading. She's at the point where she is starting to "read" to me or tell me her own thoughts about what we are seeing in the books, and even though I can't necessarily understand what she's saying, I know that the back and forth "discussions" we have are so important for her development. She particularly enjoys books about animals and the outdoors, so I think reading will be one of the best ways for us to teach her how to live green.

I can't wait to see how my baby's language develops. singing and rhyming games will be fun, and reading too! I'm really looking forward to that. Plus of course teaching him or her to live green… we try ourselves to maintain a sustainable lifestyle as much as we can, and hope to pass that important lesson on.

Thanks so much for sharing! I started with a Moby wrap and have absolutely loved wearing my son. It is such a great way for us to connect. I love the Moby wrap because it introduced my family to the great world of baby wearing. The problem with it is that it is much too warm in the summer and it is very heavy….it takes up half of my diaper bag. I wanted to search for a lighter, more eco-friendly wrap. I found it and love it! It is made of organic bamboo, sooo soft, fits in my purse, and wicks away moisture. We use it all year round. Plus you can use it for newborns and preemies. Check it out at http://kiddokorner.com/baby-carriers/happy-baby-wrap.html. I’m sure you’ll love it!
